Dry season, rainy season and shoulder months — when to go to Machu Picchu, the Amazon and the coast.
Peru has three very different climate zones — coast, Andes and Amazon — so the best time to travel depends on where you want to go.
Dry season (May – September)
Clear skies in the Andes make this the most popular time for Machu Picchu and trekking. Book early.
Shoulder months (April, October, November)
Fewer crowds, green landscapes and generally good weather — our favorite time to travel.
Rainy season (December – March)
Afternoon showers in the Andes, but sunny weather on the coast. The Inca Trail closes in February.
